A cash plan provider has launched tiered cover linked to medical procedure recovery time.
MediCheque's individual and corporate hospital cash plan provides set cash benefits irrespective of the length of time an employee is unable to work.
Dominic Higham, founder and managing director of MediCheque, said: "We conducted considerable research on the projected recovery times for the wide range of operations and medical procedures.
"By basing our model on OPCS Classification of Interventions and Procedures, we've been able to build cover that can keep premiums low."
The cover provides benefits matched to four durations of absence from a few days to a prolonged recovery period, up to three months.
It is based around four different benefit levels, with benefits matched to the normal recovery time for classifications of the operation or procedure.
Higham said: "A cash payout to reduce income and expenses to meet everything from travel and parking fees to childcare costs, will alleviate the worry for the self-employed and low wage earners who may not qualify for state help."
