Aviva returns to direct protection sales

Aviva is said to be returning to direct protection sales with the launch of a face-to-face protection advice service expected within the next year.

The insurer stopped offering direct investment and protection advice for its customers during May 2013 to focus on non-advised processes - a restructure that affected 120 advisers.

A source said that Aviva is expected to launch a network of advisers covering regions throughout the UK and is piloting the service.

However, Aviva declined to offer any further clarifications on the launch or provide any specific timescales.

A spokeswoman for Aviva said: "We have been looking at ways to grow the protection market and help more families in the UK get the financial cover they deserve. We remain wholly committed to the intermediary market"
