British Friendly registered more than 800 advisers, received 2,295 intermediary applications and wrote annual premiums in excess of £650,000 since launching BFS Protect in March 2011.

The Society also announced it has maintained a paid claims ratio in excess of 98% across all IP products

Declaring the Society "delighted" with the figures, Mark Myers, CEO of British Friendly, said: "We would like to thank each of the advisers who have taken an interest in our new proposition and also thank them for their on-going feedback.

"Our BFS Protect product is available only through IFAs, which demonstrates the value we place on intermediaries."

Mark Dennison, owner of protection adviser LightBlue UK Ltd, congratulated the provider on its "fresh and innovative" approach to the protection market.

He said: "Credit must go to their management team for delivering a strong first year in what has been a difficult market with falling sales."
