Jelf International launches healthcare guides

Jelf International has launched a series of international guides designed inform businesses about the key healthcare issues and trends within individual markets.

The first two guides focus on Singapore and Nigeria, with the consultancy planning to launch more guides in the future.

Jelf said it created the guides in response to one of the key inhibitors to doing business abroad - a lack of knowledge of the local area.

Doug Rice, director of Jelf International said: "In our experience, business owners and HR decision makers don't want to be overloaded with generic international healthcare information. They require detailed country-specific intelligence to help them make critical judgments and recommendations which will impact the future of their organisation. These guides are the first two in a planned series that aims to meet this need."

The Singapore guide covers the country's economy and make-up of the labour force; as well as expanding on the city-state's existing healthcare provision; and how policies can be tailored to meet the requirements of both local nationals and expatriates.

Meanwhile the Nigeria guide looks at the challenges inherent in sending employees to Nigeria and the fairly limited access to ‘Western-style' medicine available in the country.

Topics covered include the environment, risks, facilities and safeguards, ensuring out-of-country treatment is available when necessary.

Rice concluded: "As international employee benefits becomes increasingly complex, the option to expand overseas can be a double-edged sword for some employers.

"These guides, part of our continued commitment to support international clients, aim to give employers clarity of thought in terms of meeting their own obligations and their employees' needs and expectations."
