Capita has acquired Clinical Solutions Holdings Limited for a cash consideration of £20m on a cash-free, debt-free basis.

Clinical Solutions supports healthcare professionals in providing care and advice to patients.

Paul Pindar, chief executive of Capita, said: "This acquisition gives us a data centre that already delivers a high volume and high availability service to the NHS. It will add important new expertise."

Clinical Solutions' products include patient management software and clinical content and decision support technology.

Its software aims to reduce emergency care cost by directing non-urgent patients to local health support.

It made an operating profit for its financial year to 31 December 2011 of £6.5m on turnover of £24.2m; it has 160 staff.

The move comes after Capita's recent acquisition of Medicals Direct for £13.2m.
