A charter for income protection (IP) setting out the obligations and opportunities of companies selling Income Protection was one of the key things considered a recent IP Summit in London.

Following the meeting, the Income Protection Task Force (IPTF) is finalising the charter which will contain ten key points from streamlining the processes to simplifying terminology.

It will also suggest a Disability Awareness campaign similar to the one undertaken each May in the USA. Details of the finalized charter will be announced shortly.

Clive Waller, co-chair of the IPTF, said, "We have been delighted with the initial response to the Summit.

"It will be a long road but we must not fail the many millions of people who need this cover and have yet to be made aware that they need it."

Companies represented at the summit included Aegon, Ageas, Aviva, Bright Grey, British Friendly Society, Direct Life, Ellipse, Exeter Family Friendly, Friends Life, Gen Re, GRiD, Hannover, HSBC, L&G, LifeSearch, Master Adviser, Munich Re Pacific Life Re, PruProtect, RGA, SCOT, Scottish Widows, Swiss Re, Unum and Zurich.
