Vitality hosted a debate on the EU referendum at its Leadership Summit which included talks from former politicians, business leaders and football managers hosted at the Savoy Hotel.
Speaking at the Vitality Leadership Summit, representing the ‘Remain Campaign', the former foreign secretary and former leader of the Conservative Party, William Hague urged the audience of IFAs that a Brexit would be "the messiest divorce in history."
Hague warned that the City of London would lose out as financial services would still have to accept EU trading laws without "a seat at the table" to help regulate such laws.
Representing the ‘Leave Campaign' was John Longworth, former director-general of the British Chambers of Commerce who had resigned from his role due to his ‘Brexit' support.
He described the single market as a "mirage" for the UK economy and was only designed for manufacturing based economies with only a few sectors such as "wholesale banking" benefiting from the single market.
Meanwhile former football managers Harry Redknapp and Alan Hansen discussed leadership in relation to football and how the game has changed over time.
Jack Wild, Holbrook Property Finance said: "It was great to hear John Longworth's talk on the Brexit from a business perspective, as most of the coverage I've seen are the views of politicians and economists.
"Harry Redknapp and Alan Hansen both agreed how leadership is very different in modern football due to the huge wages the players now receive. They both felt that money doesn't always provide motivation, and passion and teamwork are key ingredients to success.
"It is refreshing to go to an insurance event that isn't purely focused on the products. Our industry could benefit from other insurers investing in similar events, as it is important that businesses have the right leadership to help close the UK's protection gap."
Emma Thomson, life office relationship director at Vitality said: "The latest Vitality Leadership Summit was well worth attending for adviser firms. Yet again the choice of speakers and guests was excellent.
"Choosing to focus on the EU Referendum was particularly engaging, and William Hague and John Longworth argued very well for each side. Harry Redknapp and Alan Hansen lightened the mood and provided a great balance to the afternoon. It was an informative and very enjoyable event."
