Experts from all areas of the protection industry will meet up on 14 November to discuss the Association of British Insurers' (ABI) consultation on critical illness (CI) definitions.
The Personal Finance Society (PFS) has organised a workshop which it hopes will widen the debate to include views of the whole protection industry. It has invited providers, reinsurers, intermediaries and charities to come along and share their views.
The outcome of the day will formulate the response that the PFS will send to the ABI.
Commenting on the forthcoming meeting, Peter Chadborn, principal at Chadborn Baker & Kearle, believes the people who initiated the meeting should be applauded. "Personally, I am very pleased to be a part of it. I do not think my individual response as an intermediary will have the same impact as a collective response, which is much more powerful," Chadborn said.
Talking about the progress of the CI consultation, Nick Kirwan admitted that the ABI's CI working party, of which he is chairman, had not yet had much formal feedback.
However, he thinks this is about to change. "I am delighted that the debate is really getting into full swing. It looks as though we will have quite a lot of feedback which is excellent. Seminars are being held, feedback questionnaires are going round and everyone's starting to talk about it," Kirwan said.
