More people employed in the travel, finance and IT industries are applying for accident, sickness and unemployment (ASU) policies, according to the general insurance network CETA.

The network found that although manufacturing employees are the largest ASU policy-buying group, there has been a rise in applications from white collar professions.

Recent world events have led to an increase in people taking out policies who are employed by companies involved in the travel, IT and financial sectors. Applications have risen from 2% to 11%, 4% to 11% and 1% to 9% respectively.

David Quick, CETA's managing director, said: 'This market niche is more sophisticated than many realise and with commission rates as high as 25% it is one they should market more intensively.'
