Following its takeover by Royal London Mutual Assurance Company in July this year, Scottish Life has revealed its intention to make its mark in the protection market in the near future.
Alistair Buchanan, head of communications at Scottish Life, said: 'Although there is nothing definite yet, this does follow on directly from our becoming part of Royal London earlier this year. We have looked at a number of areas, and we have identified two where we would like to implement a strategic entry, although there have been no definite decisions as to how and when we would do so. We could look to buy an existing business, start from scratch, or recruit people from within the industry.'
The announcement coincides with the resignation of Roger Edwards, product marketing manager at Scottish Provident, following the provider's acquisition by Abbey National. Edwards is widely regarded as the pioneer of the first menu product, Scottish Provident's Self-Assurance range.
l Following courts of session approval for the demutualisation of Scottish Provident in July, the two businesses finally come together in September. Although Scottish Provident is expected to remain the protection brand for the group, changes have already occurred in both the personnel and product focus between the existing Abbey-owned protection provider Pegasus and Scottish Provident.
