Following an announcement that it is to close its offices in Edinburgh, Abbey has confirmed that no part of its UK life, investment or protection businesses will be closed.
The Edinburgh offices, which currently house Scottish Provident, are being closed in a bid to scale down the number of sites Abbey currently works from. No jobs are being cut and all employees will be offered their current positions at Abbey's Glasgow offices.
Clarifying some media speculation that the move marked Abbey's intentions to shut down part of its business, Christine McAllister, spokesperson for Abbey, said: "This year new Scottish Provident and Scottish Mutual business will be re-branded Abbey. Some reports say we have already closed Scottish Provident to new business - this is not true. Only our with-profits funds are closed to new business.
"We are not cutting jobs in Scotland. Employees have the option of redundancy if they don't want to move or commute, but the jobs will still exist."
