Allianz Worldwide Care has launched International Private Medical Insurance (IPMI) plans for individuals and families living in China.

The plans have been designed for expatriates and locals, and are initially available for those living in Shanghai, the largest population centre in China.

In 2012 Allianz launched a range of corporate healthcare plans and launched a dedicated health insurance support centre in the Pudong District of Shanghai.

There are three core plans, with in-patient and day-care treatments covered, as well as medical evacuation, diagnostic tests and oncology treatment.

There are options for out-patient, maternity and health and wellbeing treatment.

Additionally, there are two optional dental plans for general dental treatment, dental surgery and orthodontics are also available as part of the plans.

Cover is available for pre-existing and newly diagnosed chronic conditions, as well as oncology treatment.

The plans have been launched in partnership with sister company Allianz China General Insurance Company, which was established in 2003 and approved by the Chinese regulator in 2010 as a foreign-owned subsidiary.

Michael Li, CEO of Allianz China General Insurance Company, said: "Our local knowledge and contacts together with Allianz Worldwide Care's global healthcare expertise have enabled us to provide an outstanding solution to individuals looking for international health insurance.
"The importance of private health insurance and access to private local and international medical facilities is widely recognised, particularly given China's overcrowded public hospital system."
