The International Federation of Health Plans (iFHP) has announced AXA PPP CEO Keith Gibb as the organisation's new president.

The iFHP brings together major health organisations from 6 continents with member firms including Blue Cross plans in Canada,

Member firms include Blue Cross plans across Canada; Kaiser Permanente and Aetna in the USA; ARS Humano, Banmedica and Omint in Latin America; Bupa, Malakoff Mederic, Helsana Versicherung, Achmea and Vhi in Europe; Religare in India; Medihelp, CIMAS, Discovery, Hygeia and Polmed in Africa; Medibank, HBF, HCF in Australia and Southern Cross in New Zealand.

Gibbs said: "I am honoured and delighted to have been elected as iFHP President. The pace of change in healthcare is increasing and there are a number of trends that present real opportunities to improve global health - new technology including wearables, improvements in the understanding of genetics and better data analytics are all positive developments.

"Equally we face a number of challenges, such as cost inflation particularly in pharmaceuticals, plus the growth in chronic and lifestyle diseases. By providing a platform to share insight and work collectively the iFHP can help its members to improve health outcomes for all of our customers."

Ian McPherson, who is retiring as President of the iFHP and as CEO of Southern Cross New Zealand, said: "I was delighted that the iFHP enabled me to contribute to health improvements more broadly in New Zealand.

"By working together, health businesses will be better equipped to tackle the challenges of ageing populations and the ever-growing costs of healthcare."
