clock

The Prime Minister has appointed Jeremy Hunt as secretary of state for health to replace Andrew Lansley who will step into the role of leader of the House of Commons.

The Prime Minister will make the final decisions in the cabinet reshuffle today. Those leaving have now been told and those remaining in cabinet will be invited to Downing Street.

Speculation over Andrew Lansley retaining his post grew when Michael Gove, secretary of state for education, and Iain Duncan Smith, secrtary of state for work and pensions, remained in their posts.

The Prime Minister said of Gove and Duncan Smith that he "wants to keep strong reformers in post" yet mentioned nothing of Lansley and the heavy NHS reforms.
