A new low-cost healthcare policy has been launched by Universal Provident which aims to plug gaps in the NHS.
NHS Plus, which pledges to enhance NHS services ' not replace them, is substantially cheaper than traditional PMI policies and offers 10 individual benefits.
For less than £5 per week a family can use additional facilities provided by the NHS. As part of the benefits package, clients can have a private room while staying in an NHS hospital and if treatment is not available on the NHS for more than six months, clients can receive treatment privately. Those diagnosed with a terminal illness can also claim £10,000 of exploratory treatment on a worldwide basis.
Universal Provident decided to launch the scheme following a poll, which indicated most people would pay an additional sum and benefit from enhanced facilities.
Jon Pardoe, managing director, said: 'NHS Plus is available for a family for less than many people spend on the lottery. There is no excuse for people not to enhance their family's healthcare. The NHS is a national institution. We love the concept, but despair of its limitations. NHS Plus gives the opportunity to add to existing services, while at the same time not letting go of our ideals.'
