MediQuote is in discussions with BUPA International about placing international private medical insurance (IPMI) products on its PMI comparison and quotation system, writes Angela Faherty. It has also been in talks with other major IPMI providers in a bid to secure a contract before the project goes live, as expected, in December this year.
Both companies have said negotiations are still in their infancy, but the outcome of a recent meeting was encouraging.
'The meeting with BUPA International was positive,' said Mark Kimberling, business development director of MediQuote.
'It is still early days, but we will be having further discussions with BUPA International and a number of other providers over the next few months.'
Damian Marmion, development director at BUPA International, said: 'We are in discussions with MediQuote. BUPA International is always keen to find new ways to help and advise intermediaries in what we see as a key role within the international healthcare market. However, negotiations between the two companies are at an early stage and as yet, nothing has been agreed in writing.'
The move into the IPMI market follows MediQuote's announcement it is to add group life, group income protection and group critical illness products to its system.
