IFA John Joseph is encouraging critical illness insurers to offer claimants a new medical advisory service.
ACUMatch is being launched in the UK by Best Doctors Inc a US company that will enable claimants to conduct nationwide and worldwide searches to find the appropriate specialist to treat their condition.
The service also offers individuals the opportunity to discuss their condition with trained nurses.
So far the only insurer that has agreed to offer the service free to claimants is Skandia.
Commenting on the service, John Joseph, IFA, said: "I want to be part of the natural progression whereby health insurance policies provide not only financial answers, but also a link to top medical advice, which will create a partnership of excellence between the medical and health insurance professions. Insurance policies that incorporate the service will provide full financial protection plus access to the best doctors in the field. As an IFA, I believe all health policies should offer the best doctor service to their clients."
Other insurers are beginning to recognise the importance of supplying health services alongside insurance products. Following the success of its specialist breast cancer and bone marrow treatment centres, BUPA has recently announced the launch of a specialist bowel cancer network, to ensure PMI claimants with the disease will receive the best possible care. Swiss Life, meanwhile, has been offering claimants on group CI schemes the opportunity to use a care advisory service provided via a link up with care advisers, RED ARC, for almost a year.
