Royal Liver clarifies and adds to policy conditions
Royal Liver is to make changes to illness definitions and the clarity of policy conditions in its critical illness (CI) policies.
The insurer said it was in the process of improving the level of clarity in the terms and conditions of policies and, alongside the definitions set by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), will also adopt a number of new definitions.
Aidan Dewhurst, IFA market manager for the provider, was unable to confirm which ABI+ definitions were being adopted but said: "We're adding some conditions and enhancing some existing ones. We will also be adding some ABI+ conditions."
He added: "This all comes about as a response to customer feedback and the way that the market is going. We need to add clarity and by getting more definitions in there and interpreting them in a way we see fit, it is moving towards that clarity in the market. And it's giving customers what they want in terms of peace of mind."
He added that the company was also making the changes in order to comply with Treating Customers Fairly and that Royal Liver felt responding to the needs of customers would drive sales. However, he said he did not want to a see a 'numbers race' where insurers tried to out do each on the number of illnesses they included on their policies.
The changes are timetabled to come into force within the first two weeks of October.
