Standard Life Healthcare has widened its range of health insurance products with the launch of a cash plan.
The Health Cash Plan provides tax-free cash sums to cover 24 health benefits with premiums starting from £2.73 a week. Subscribers can receive up to £7,500 per year for inpatient hospital stays.
Cash sums are also available to help with recuperation or home convalescence and home help and treatment of psychiatric conditions. The Health Cash Plan also offers up to £300 a year for alternative medicine.
This will enable policyholders to benefit from access to a range of alternative treatments such as physiotherapy, acupuncture, osteopathy, chiropractic treatment and homeopathy.
The Health Cash Plan also offers up to £80 towards dental expenses. Up to £100 per year towards optical costs is also included. This comprises routine check-ups and necessary dental treatment. With optical cover monies can go towards annual sight tests and both new prescription contact lenses and spectacles.
Philip Wright, sales director at Standard Life Healthcare, said: "We piloted this new product with our direct sales team just after Christmas. We are more than delighted by the positive response it received - it exceeded all our expectations."
"The Health Cash Plan makes a high level of protection for everyday healthcare affordable to more people and has proven to appeal to a wide spectrum. Our aim is to have a flexible product that will appeal both to people who cannot afford PMI and those that are wanting to take it up to complement their existing PMI policy."
The whole family can be covered by the Health Cash Plan with any number of dependent children covered at no extra cost. Three levels of cover are available starting from as little as 39p per day, with no distinction between age groups.
The Health Cash Plan is open to those aged between 18 and 65, with acceptance guaranteed.
There are three levels of cover available for single and joint membership. Monthly premiums for single membership are £11.85, £15.30 and £20.30.
Each level provides the same range of healthcare benefits. However, the cash benefits increase with the level of cover.
