Expacare plans two product launches before the year is out

Expacare will be taking advantage of international private medical insurance (IPMI) market growth with two product launches planned before the end of the year.

The IPMI provider will bring travel insurance into its cover as a flexible add-on. It will also aim to be re-launching its individual cover with a new name and overhauled structure.

Beverly Cook, managing director of Expacare, said: "We traditionally offer off-the-shelf products that can be quite expensive. When travel cover is seperate often there is cross over with IPMI cover so people are paying twice for the same cover.

"The sorts of clients buying this product are travelling overseas so much anyway that it makes sense for it to be a part of their cover."

Expacare will also be re-launching its individual cover with a new name and overhauled structure very similar to its Choices offering.

Cook said: "It is about giving more options and flexibility to the client. At the moment our individual cover offers just three levels of cover off the shelf and you cannot really change it.

"I want to turn it into a core benefits-type structure with lots of bits that can sit around it. Clients want flexibility."

She added there had been a shift lately of advisers entering the IPMI market and had "definitely" seen new IFA players coming through.

Cook said: "Advisers perceive a barrier probably because of the language issue and legislation but it should not be that hard for them to expand into IPMI."

Cook hinted Expacare had not ruled out expansion into the UK PMI market.

She said: "We are absolutely looking to broaden out beyond international PMI. Watch this space."
