Legal & General and Newbury Building Society have entered a joint distribution agreement for protection products.

Newbury has chosen the insurance giant to be the sole supplier of protection products to its 50,000 members through its branch network and website.

The building society serves communities in West Berkshire, North Hampshire and South Oxfordshire through a network of nine branches.

The deal is subject to a contract agreement, and will add to L&G's existing alliances with the Nationwide, Yorkshire and Skipton Building Societies.

Chris Last, managing director, banks & building societies at Legal & General, says: "We look forward to working with Newbury to deliver tangible business results and a compelling offering to their members."

Roland Gardner, chief executive of Newbury Building Society, said: "We recognise that our members need protection products such as life assurance and we feel that with our strong community links we are in an ideal position to provide it."
