CIGNA International has launched an international health insurance plan that places emphasis on prevention rather than cure.
The International Employee Healthcare Plan includes three levels of cover - Standard, Premier and Premier Plus.
Key features on the standard plan include cover for chronic conditions, inpatient and outpatient treatment, HIV/AIDS cover, psychiatric care and nursing home charges.
Outpatient treatment is only included on Premier cover, but unlike most plans the benefit does not include any outpatient limits.
Sheldon Kenton, director for international sales and claims management, said: "This is by far the cheapest way to treat people. Forcing people into inpatient treatment when they reach their outpatient limit is unfair and not sensible from a claims management point of view.
"An outpatient limit is also prejudicial as the cost depends on the treatment and the country, which is out of the control of the individual."
Premier Plus is based around prevention rather than cure and features a Wellness Benefit that includes annual health screens, mammograms, well child tests and vaccinations for travel and immunisations.
Cover has also been doubled for dental care, bringing the maximum benefit for routine dental to £2,000 and orthodontic treatment to £600. Annual eye examinations are also included as well as £100 towards prescribed frames and lenses.
Kenton said: "We built our new three-tier plan as a direct response to the growing emphasis companies are placing on preventative medical care."
Employers using the plan will also be offered online country information from security services firm Pinkerton to research areas before posting staff abroad and to monitor areas where staff are already posted.
