A recent survey by protection IFA LifeSearch has shown that 48% of people think life insurance is the most suitable product for their family. Of the 1,600 consumers responding, 23% thought mortgage payment protection insurance was the better option, while 21% and 12% opted for income protection and family income benefit, respectively.

Commenting on the results, Kevin Carr, senior technical adviser at LifeSearch, said: "The fact that more people think they need MPPI rather than FIB or IP is concerning. Consumers tend to prefer lump sums as they imply or perceive better value for money, when in truth an income is often far better over time. "
