This client is being sensible in thinking about taking out cover. She is doing what many people are scared to do ' facing up to the real possibility of contracting a critical illness.
She knows survival rates for breast cancer are improving all the time, so if she is taking out protection she should think about including a buyback option, so that if the worst does happen she will not be left without any cover.
As well as critical illness insurance, it is important people realise the need to replace their income should they not be able to work due to accident or serious illness. This client will be able to replace her income with up to 50% of her annual salary with disability income benefit.
If she starts a family in the future, she can rest assured that if she takes out both disability income benefit and at least £25,000 of critical illness insurance with Scottish Provident, she will get children's income benefit free. As well as this free benefit, the client will also receive immediate cash benefit free. These benefits are unique to Scottish Provident and they can offer real added value to this client's protection portfolio.
The Self Assurance menu also allows her to change her cover in the future if her circumstances change, for example, she may want to add life cover and/or another person onto her policy in the future.
This client is in the unfortunate position of having cancer in her direct family history. Although this does not necessarily mean she will get breast cancer, her chances are nevertheless increased, which means she is likely to pay a higher premium for life insurance and critical illness cover.
Regardless of the premium, this client has a real need for financial protection. The protection her adviser recommends she takes out will give her the peace of mind that should the worst happen she will have one less thing to worry about ' her finances.
