Two-thirds of advisers think Prudential's recently published research on declined claims has damaged the industry as a whole, according to COVER's latest web poll.

Some 64.3% of respondents to the survey said they thought the study, which claimed that over the last five years there was £43.9bn of rejected protection claims across Britain, had further destroyed the sector's reputation. Only 35.7% disagreed.

The Law Commission's third insurance law paper, published in March, looked at the role of intermediaries in terms of who they are acting on behalf of and expressed concern about the lack of clarity around this issue.

Following the publication of this paper, this month's survey asks whether an intermediary, which is not independent, is acting on behalf of the end customer as opposed to an insurer?
