Matthew Wood of Genesis Wealth Management has been revealed as first prize winner of the PruProtect World Cup Fantasy football competition.
Wood beat out more than 700 rivals to the title as he scored 33,000 points along the way.
And the IFA owes all of his success to the performance of England's nemesis, Germany, after he invested his entire virtual £100,000 portfolio on the team.
The side did not let him down, ousting England in a controversial 4-1 victory on the way to the semi finals where they were beaten 1-0 by eventual winners Spain.
They rebounded, however, to claim third place, defeating Uruguay 3-2 in the third place decider.
Each participant was given £100,000 of virtual money to invest in one or more teams with the winner being the entrant whose portfolio of teams had the highest value at the end of the competition.
Points were allocated based on the teams' performance, such as goals scored and matches won.
To make things interesting each competing nation was given its own rating so weaker teams earned more points than stronger teams.
Wood is delighted to claim the top prize of an iPad although he was hoping for a better showing from England in South Africa.
"I'm very happy to have won the competition even though England sadly struggled," he says.
