Bupa's decision to stop selling private medical insurance (PMI) through intermediaries is "a shame", Avelo has stated.

Paul Yates, strategy & business development director at Avelo, said Bupa was a strong, well-known brand and consumers expected intermediaries to have considered it in market research.

He said: "That said there are lots of specialist businesses that can serve this market place who provide great value to this important market.

"It is more important than ever to show clients a clear comparison of the options and providers open to them across the market."
