Main benefits: Gives the freedom to select PMI cover levels, discounts, hospital coverage and underwriting methods. Values 1 will give the greatest possible protection.

Age cover ceases for existing clients: No maximum
Maximum age for a dependant child to be covered: Children (including adopted children) can be included until the renewal date of the policy immediately after their 21st birthday, or their 25th birthday if in full-time education. Children must be unmarried and dependent.
In the case of a child born after the commencement date of the policy, Royal & SunAlliance will accept a copy of the birth certificate, provided that they are advised within one month of the birth.
Maximum age for a full-time student to be covered: 25
Premiums can be paid monthly: Premiums can be paid monthly by direct debit. There is a surcharge of 6% for monthly premiums.
Waiver of premium available: No
Underwriting by moratorium clause: Yes ' two-year rolling moratorium means that any medical conditions or related medical conditions for which the insured has had treatment, medication, advice or symptoms in the five years
prior to inception, are not immediately insured under the policy. If the planholder does not have symptoms, treatment, medication or advice concerning existing medical conditions for two consecutive years after the policy starts, cover will then be available.
All unexpected medical conditions that are new after the policy has commenced will be covered from the first day of insurance cover. Pre-existing medical conditions for which regular or periodic treatment, advice or medication is required, will not be covered by the policy.
Plan is fully underwritten: Yes ' the planholder will complete a questionnaire giving details of their medical history. With the planholder's consent a questionnaire may be sent to their GP for further information.
The terms offered will clearly state any personal exclusions that apply to the policy in advance of making any claim.
Optional excess available: Applicants have an option to reduce the premiums by opting for an excess. A range of discounts is available, according to the excess specified. The excess works on a per person/per annum basis, therefore if there is more than one claim in a year, the excess applies only once.

Claims pre-authorisation service: Royal & SunAlliance provides a claims helpline. The helpline will be able to confirm that the treatment is eligible under the policy and advise on any questions regarding the claims procedure.
Claims settled direct with hospital: Royal & SunAlliance offers to settle all accounts (less any excess) direct with the hospital, specialist and others concerned with the treatment. Any excess must be paid by the insured direct with the specialist or hospital.
Number of hospital bands available: All hospitals are graded to a choice of A, B or C hospital bands. The hospital bands relate to the costs of treatment, and are not an indication of the standard or quality of patient care available at the hospital.
Select hospital list used: Yes ' the hospital bands relate to the costs of treatment. Private hospitals have single room en suite facilities with band A & B, however in some hospitals it may be necessary to share a room with band C cover. Royal & SunAlliance has identified a number of hospitals in recognition of their proven commitment to providing a consistently high standard of quality patient care at cost effective prices.
Inpatient nursing and accommodation costs: Full refund for treatment in a hospital as shown on the Values 1 hospital list for:
• Room and board including nursing fees.
• Use of operating theatre.
• Drugs and dressings prescribed for treatment in hospital.
• Implanted prosthesis such as artificial hip or heart pace maker.
• Intensive care.
• Diagnostic procedures such as pathology and radiology.
• Specific treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and physiotherapy.
• Personal expenses (up to £5 per night with a maximum of £15 per stay in hospital).
Inpatient anaesthetist fees: Full refund of surgeons' and anaesthetists' fees for each operation, including aftercare, according to the Royal & SunAlliance classification of the operation.
Inpatient physicians fees: Full refund of physicians' fees.
Inpatient drugs and dressings: Full refund of drugs and dressings prescribed for treatment in hospital, but not for any surgical appliances or any drugs or dressings that the insured takes home with them.
Costs of parent accompanying a child: Full refund of accommodation for parent or child accompanying the insured person if medically necessary. The child must be 12 years of age or under and the specialist in charge of the treatment must certify that it was medically necessary for both parent and child to be admitted.
Inpatient psychiatric treatment: In-patient or day patient charges and half day sessions for psychiatric treatment. 28 days per insured per period of insurance for psychiatric treatment charges relating to treatment for or resulting from:
• Psychiatric, mental or nervous illness.
• Alcoholism, solvent abuse or any other addiction.
Outpatient consultation costs: Full refund for consultations, investigations and treatment on specialist referral.
Outpatient radiotherapy: On specialist referral, full refund for special treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and physiotherapy.
Outpatient chemotherapy: On specialist referral, full refund for special treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and physiotherapy.
Outpatient physiotherapy: Full refund on specialist referral for consultations, investigations and treatment.
Optional Benefit: Up to £400 per insured person per annum on GP referral for specific treatments including physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic.
Day care treatment: Full refund for day-care treatment made by:
• Surgeons and anaesthetists.
• Physicians.
• Other specialists.
Cover for cost of maternity complications: Full refund for inpatient and day patient specialist fees, hospital charges, and outpatient charges for the treatment of the following conditions and complications arising from them only after 10 months from the commencement date of the policy:
• Abnormal presentation.
• Ectopic pregnancy.
• Miscarriage.
• Missed abortion.
• Still birth.
• Post-partum haemorrhage.
• Retained placental membrane.
The insured person must have been insured under the policy for at least 10 months.
Cover for home nursing costs: Immediately following inpatient and day patient treatment, up to £1000 per insured person per annum, when the specialist treating the insured person has confirmed in writing that this was medically necessary.
Worldwide and repatriation cover: Not covered. Any insured person must live in the UK for at least 180 days in each period of insurance. If any insured person ceases to be resident in the UK their cover under the policy will be cancelled at the next renewal date.
Cover for costs of dental treatment: Full refund for orosurgical treatment performed by an oral maxillofacial surgeon, that cannot be undertaken by the dentist:
• The surgical removal of any impacted or buried teeth.
• The surgical removal of complicated buried roots.
• The replantation of any teeth.
• An apicectomy.
£75 per insured person per annum for emergency dental treatment:
• The immediate temporary relief of severe pain, swelling or haemorrhage.
• The recementing of crowns and bridges and the urgent repair to appliances other than orthodontic.

Stresscare counselling available: Yes ' Royal & SunAlliance provides a confidential telephone counselling service operating 24-hours a day, 365 days a year covering a range of personal and work-related problems in areas such as:
• Debt counselling.
• Marital and relationship difficulties.
• Alcohol and drug misuse.
• Loss of confidence.
• Stress.
• Bereavement.
• Workplace issues.
If the professional counsellor judges that the planholder would benefit from face-to-face counselling then the counsellor will arrange the first of up to eight sessions.
Other benefits available: Personal expenses ' such as newspapers, telephone calls, visitors' meals charged by the hospital ' £5 a night up to a maximum of £15 a stay in hospital. Medical advice line ' operated 24-hours a day, 365 days a year by a team of doctors and nurses with a combination of medical expertise. In addition the team has access to a sophisticated computer system to provide up to date information about national help organisations, support groups and more. The medical helpline provides pre and post-treatment advice.
