Significant reform of public private partnerships (PPPs) is needed for the Government to deliver an effective health service, according to a new report published by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR).
The report, 'Building Better Partnerships', outlines the practical problems of making partnerships work, but also says there should be no ideological barrier to the use of PPPs and backs greater use of the private sector to modernise health services.
The report states: 'The challenge is to create a genuine partnership with opportunities for innovation.'
Louise Zucchi, media relations manager at Norwich Union, said the report was a step in the right direction and demonstrated opportunities for the private sector to work in partnership with the public health sector.
'The fact the subject is being debated is a very positive step. The report reflects a cautious approach to partnerships, but at the same time makes it clear that it is very much on the agenda, which we are pleased to see. The report also demonstrates the strong opportunities for public and private sectors to work together,' she said.
