Third of parents cite negative mental health impact

Research has found that 30% of parents consider parenthood to have had a negative impact on their mental health, which is the equivalent of more than three million parents.

Parent charity, Parentkind, supported by AXA Health, surveyed 5,866 parents with at least one child aged between 4-18 in school, as part of its National Parent Survey 2025. It found that being two million mothers have reported that being a parent has had a negative impact on their mental health. One in three parents have found parenting difficult, which AXA Health said is equivalent to 3.7m struggling parents across the UK with "big gaps between well off parents and parents the lowest incomes".
