Royal London upgrades critical illness cover

Two new 100% payment conditions added

Royal London has widened coverage on its critical illness (CI) cover by improving, changing and adding definitions to expand the scope for claims, including putting in place the newly required Association of British Insurers’ (ABI) wording changes.

Under the CI cover upgrades, two new 100% payment conditions have been added. The first condition is severe mental illness, a specifically worded definition designed to catch conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder. The second condition is severe bowel disease, which includes diverticulitis and intestinal ischaemia as well as Crohn's and ulcerative colitis. Claims will be paid if the policyholder is undergoing a second bowel resection or full colectomy.
