Private healthcare admissions hit highest level in 2023

Data from the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) shows that private healthcare admissions hit 227,000 in January to March 2023 (Q1), marking the highest total of private admissions since PHIN began collecting data.

The rise in private healthcare admissions, which increased by 17,000 from Q1 2022, was driven by a growth in insured treatments (18,000) compared to the same period in 2022. Brett Hill, head of health & protection at independent consultancy Broadstone, commented that pressures on the NHS including waiting lists at all-time highs, deteriorating public health and pay disputes, are feeding through into record demand within the private healthcare sector.
