One quarter of older workers leave employment due to ill-health: ONS

Nearly one quarter (24%) of workers aged 50-64 left their job in the last eight years due to health reasons, compared to 22% in 2022, according to new data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

This year, there were 3.5 million people aged 50-64 who were economically inactive in the UK, although around 460,000 of individuals in this age group were still willing to or would like to work. Of the 3.5 million inactive individuals in this age group, 42.3% cited "sick or disabled" as the main reason for not looking for work.
