Protection needs highlighted as govt scraps housing benefit for the under-22s

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has scrapped housing benefit for young adults aged 18-21 in proposals put forward in parliament on Friday 3rd March.

The cut introduced as part of Universal Credit reforms was first discussed by the former Chancellor George Obsorne in the 2015 Budget.   The Department for Work and Pensions estimates that the change, which will now be debated by MPs, will affect about 11,000 young people and cut £105m from the benefits bill by 2020.
