MPs are expected to take part debate on a motion relating to the effects of welfare reform on sick and disabled people.

This debate has been called as a result of the WOW petition, led by comedian and campaigner Francesca Martinez, which has called for an investigation into the impact of the government's legislation.

The debate has been scheduled for the Thursday 27 February, by the Backbench Business Committee following representations from John McDonnell and Grahame M. Morris, once the petition reached 100,000 signatures.

The text of the motion calls for the government to commission an independent cumulative assessment of the impact of changes in the welfare system on sick and disabled people, their families and carers, drawing upon the expertise of the Work and Pensions Select Committee.

It also calls for an investigation into Atos Healthcare, a consultation into improving work for sick and disabled people and calls for the end of the work capability assessment.
