Ashwin Mistry is set to become president of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in 2014.
Mr Mistry is chairman and managing director of Brokerbility, and has over 30 years' experience in the insurance industry.
He has been nominated to become deputy president, subject to a vote which will take place at the organisations AGM in July. All CII members are given the opportunity to vote on the matter.
Mr Mistry will hold the position of deputy-president for 12 months and will then be nominated as president, taking up that role in the summer of 2014.
He commented: "I'm obviously very honoured by the nomination."
Mr Mistry said it was important for those who have enjoyed the lifestyle a career in insurance could bring to give something back.
He added: "It's a great honour for me and for my company."
Amanda Blanc, CEO of Axa Commercial Lines and Personal Intermediary, is currently CII president.
She will be replaced in the summer of 2013 by her deputy Tom Woolgrove, managing director, personal lines at Direct Line Group.
