Bright Grey has reported an increase in the number of critical illness (CI) claims paid out over the last year, with the number of claims declined for non-disclosure reduced by over six times.
According to the provider, 83% of CI claims were paid, with £20m paid out to claimants. Claims declined due to non-disclosure in the same period fell from 12% to 1.8%.
Roger Edwards, proposition director at Bright Grey, said the figures showed "real progress", adding: "Non disclosure has been an issue that has concerned the industry for a long time, but our figures provide a reassurance that our plan owners can be confident that claims will be paid."
Bright Grey said the youngest claimant was 21 years old, with the average age of claimants being 43 for men and 39 for women. Seven out of 10 claims on CI policies were for cancer.
It was also revealed that 93% of consumers with Bright Grey's plans who were contacted by RED ARC, used the Helping hand service.
