Information to help advisers understand their clients' medical history ' including the effects of a family history of cancer when underwriting critical illness policies ' is being made available to advisers through Scottish Equitable Protect's IFA newsletter, writes Kirstie Redford.

Underwriting Today, to be published in August, features a summary of the clinical features of both breast cancer and colorectal cancer ' two areas where family history can be particularly significant.

According to Matt Rann, head of underwriting at Scottish Equitable Protect, the information was compiled and published following requests from advisers. 'Many IFAs are concerned their clients' medical history will mean they will be unable to obtain insurance,' he said.

l To obtain copies of Underwriting Today, advisers should call 0845 600 1402.
