International private medical plans (IPMI) have surged in popularity, with sales up 80% over the last decade, according to a survey published by employee benefits consultancy, William M. Mercer. More than 50% of the companies polled now provide IPMI to expatriates.
The majority of companies surveyed did provide cover for medical care alongside death and disability benefits, with the most common level of death benefit being two times salary. The most common level of long-term disability benefit was 60% of salary.
