CI
Scottish Provident has revealed its declined claims data for critical illness (CI) for the first half of 2005.
Figures from January to June this year have shown that the insurer declined 11% of claims on the grounds of non-disclosure, or for not meeting policy definitions. It paid out £45.5m on CI claims during this period, with cancer remaining the most common cause for claims among adults.
In total, £30.5m was paid out for 383 claims between January and June 2005, with the average payout being £79,760. The company has paid out nearly £203m on cancer claims since 1996.
Sue Wilkinson, head of life and health propositions at Scottish Provident, said about the figures: "By highlighting the reasons why some claims are declined, we're also trying to emphasise the need to be as accurate and detailed as possible with the information disclosed on application forms."
