A closer look at a FOS judgement on MPPI sold to the self-employed

A recent FOS decision has raised the stakes on payouts for mis-sold MPPI products; explains Richard Walsh.

The decision was about MPPI sold to the self-employed and how much compensation should be paid.  The link can be found HERE: [asset_library_tag f1895156-f0bc-48de-9969-584853954247,Sesame MPPI FOS judgement] The company argued that because the mis-selling only applied to the unemployment aspect of the policy only the proportion of premiums related to that element of the policy should be refunded.  But Ombudsman Caroline Stirling said: "I'm not persuaded Mr and Mrs M would have bought this policy at all if the restrictive terms for self-employed people had been made clear to them. ...
