Half of workers worried about loss of income due to personal illness

Research has found that nearly half (47%) of UK workers were worried about a potential loss of earnings due to personal illness over the past 12 months, up from 43% in 2022.

The Exeter's report, Health & Financial Fears Report for 2023, surveyed 2,000 employed adults aged over 18 and found the number of workers concerned about being able to afford mortgage or rent payments increased to 52% from 44% in 2022, marking the steepest rise seen in the research. More than half (58%) of workers were worried about being able to afford basic food and utility bills, which is up from 52% in 2022 due to the ongoing impact of the cost of living crisis.
