On day four of Income Protection Awareness Week 2023, mortgage and protection experts discussed how underwriting processes can be improved to help write more income protection (IP) business and how advisers can introduce the concept of underwriting to customers.

While Tracey Boyd, mortgage consultant and managing director of Mortgage Hub Expert, noted that all insurers are "great", the "better insurers" will offer advisers a dedicated underwriter or a dedicated person to ring directly. This is a far greater tool for advisers, Boyd explained, particularly as a mortgage adviser who is advising on protection while simultaneously organising a mortgage.
