Only 9% of consumers associate the term 'protection' with life or critical illness cover, research by L&G reveals

Legal & General is encouraging the insurance industry to reconsider the way it speaks about life and critical illness insurance products, following a survey which revealed that most consumers are confused about the language used for protection products. The survey of 2000 people found that only around one in 10 (9%) associated the term ‘protection' with life or critical illness cover, with 40% assuming it related to protection against physical harm or protective clothing, while 19% did not associate the word with anything specific at all.
