Budget 2017: Hammond pledges no 'death tax' as social care Green Paper imminent

The government has pledged £2bn extra for social care as a Green Paper on social care funding will be published later this year.

The Spring 2017 Spring Budget revealed that the additional £2bn funding will be made available to social care in England over the next 3 years, with £1bn available in 17-18.  The Chancellor Phillip Hammond said this was in addition to £7bn that the government was planning to put into the social care system over the next 3 years.  Hammond said options for future funding "do not include, and never have included, a Death Tax."
