BIBA highlights brokers' difficulties to government

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has highlighted the challenges and pressures of small brokers to government representatives.

BIBA has facilitated visits to two member brokers so that the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has a better understanding of brokers' needs.

It hopes that these requirements can be represented when future policy and regulations are shaped.

The BIS is looking to understand the pressures and concerns of day to day business and other issues faced by brokers.

And the department is interested in how it can support business and has specifically focused upon the impact of regulation and whether it is viewed as a burden or as protection.

In addition it has looked at how regulation might be reduced but its effectiveness maintained.

Also it is interested in any future and succession plans that brokers have.

Peter Staddon, head of technical services at BIBA, said: "We are pleased to have built up a positive relationship with BIS and this visit will allow them to understand and consider members' needs when they are shaping future policy.

"There will be big changes ahead and the more understanding of members that the government and its departments have, the better."
