In the famous words of Benjamin Franklin, in this world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes. Many mistakenly believe, however, that inheritance is the same.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court overruled a lower court's previous ruling on the size of an award paid to a daughter from her estranged mother's estate.   The mother had made no provision in her will for her adult daughter, instead choosing to leave her estate of nearly £500,000 to three charities.
