Bupa's Perry: Private sector 'must be bolder' in publicising contribution to UK healthcare

Bupa's Alex Perry has urged the independent healthcare sector to fight harder for customers, affordability and to be bolder in talking about its contribution to the UK healthcare system.

Speaking at the LaingBuisson Private Acute Healthcare Conference in London, Bupa Insurance's newly appointed CEO in the UK, said that the "outlook for our sector has darkened over the past year." Perry pointed to the rise in insurance premium tax (IPT) and the "worrying and growing feeling in some camps that independent healthcare is a negative force in the UK system" as two major issues.  He said: "While we support measures to bring about greater transparency, the idea that doctors should "own up" and declare their private earnings is a clear sign of hostility towards our sector." ...
