Should piling on the pounds over the festive period exclude people from increasing their cover without additional underwriting?

According to the Association of UK Dieticians, the average person over the Christmas period puts on between 1kg and 2.5kg of extra flab. Although packing on some extra pounds during the festive season is not a good thing, should it stop someone from being able to increase their cover after a key life event without having to go through the process of underwriting?
