Fifth of injured employees not paid while recovering

6% of workers had income protection

Research by MetLife UK has found that in the last year, 11% of employees had to take one month of unplanned leave from work due to an injury from an accident, such as a broken bone.

According to a survey by the protection and employee benefits provider of 3,021 employees, one quarter (24%) had to take between one to three weeks off. Despite this, just 7% had accident and sickness cover, while 6% had income protection. Approximately 22% said they were not paid by their employer during these periods of unplanned leave, while 20% were paid for part of their time off but later received reduced payment.
